Important Update regarding Iggy ("cigarmanauto" on eBay):
Iggy has gone out of his way to take responsibility for his limited role in this auction. To my satisfaction, he has now fulfilled all responsibilities as the lister of the auction and I have now requested that eBay remove the negative feedback I originally left. I've spoken to Iggy several times (emails and a phone call) and have gotten a much better picture of how this deal came to be. Iggy listed this Mustang on eBay as a favor to Tony Chiofolo, accepting pretty much at face value the info Tony provided when he described the auto. Iggy did see the car before the auction but did not closely inspect it and believed Tony's description to be accurate. This strikes me as entirely believable because the car does look quite good from a few yards away unless you're specifically looking for its flaws. Also, my payment for the car went to "Log Cabin Auto Sales" (Tony Chiofolo's business in Murphy, NC), and to the best of my knowledge Iggy did not profit from the sale. I do not believe Iggy had any motive to provide inaccurate information.
In short, I believe Tony Chiofolo took advantage of Iggy's willingness to perform a favor and placed Iggy in a very unfortunate position. Iggy has now provided me with a full description of both his and Tony's roles in the sale and has taken full responsibility for his part. As far as I am concerned, Iggy has satisfied my concerns about his involvement and I respect him for being a stand-up eBayer.
None of this changes the condition of the car, however, nor the fact that it was misrepresented to me by Tony Chiofolo via phone and email and through the descriptions he provided for the eBay listing. Therefore I will continue to pursue a settlement with Tony and Log Cabin Auto Sales.
